Psittacosaurus
Psittacosaurus stands out as the most species-rich non-avian dinosaur genus, with up to 12 distinct species identified across regions such as China, Mongolia, Russia, and Thailand. As obligate bipeds in adulthood, these dinosaurs featured high skulls and sturdy, beak-like mouths, suggesting specialized feeding behaviors. Remarkably, one specimen was discovered with long, filamentous structures on its tail, reminiscent of those seen in Tianyulong, hinting at possible display or sensory functions. The proportions and relative size of its brain suggest Psittacosaurus may have exhibited complex social behaviors, perhaps being active during short bursts in both daytime and nighttime, supported by highly developed senses of smell and vision.

How this life is scored
Weights are derived from what the animal is, never templated — which is why no two species on this roster score the same way.
Evolutionary state

Growth
Hatch to adult is 0.91 h — 1.4 in-game days on North Point's clock, where one day is 40 real minutes. Parental dependency is not counted as growth — an animal that survived alone skipped part of its species' life, and the ontogeny term is what notices.

Range & ecology
Home range
Where this species concentrates on the map — from its biome affinity, not an even scatter. Ranges overlap where the biomes do.
Predation
Hunted by
Social system Sentinel Band
A small band of prey that posts a lookout while the rest feed, trading the duty around. Cooperation is minimal but real: someone is always watching, and the watch is what keeps them alive.
Roles in the group
What it creates
- A posted sentinel means the band is rarely surprised.
- Watch duty rotates — a real, if simple, cooperation.
- Some members escape by shelter, splitting a predator's options.
✦ Someone is always watching, and today it might be you.
Signature abilities

Profile clauses
- Small critter with a burrow it bolts to. The burrow-shelter behaviour makes it a puzzle, not just a snack.
Reference material
As one of the earliest ceratopsians, Psittacosaurus is evolutionarily closer to Triceratops than to Yinlong, once classified in its own family, Psittacosauridae. Uniquely, Psittacosaurus is among the best-documented dinosaurs, with hundreds of fossils - including complete skeletons - covering all growth stages from hatchlings to adults. This extensive fossil record has facilitated detailed studies of its growth, development, and reproductive strategies, leading scientists to designate the Lower Cretaceous sediments of East Asia as the Psittacosaurus biochron, a testament to its abundance and ability to adapt and survive significance in prehistoric ecosystems.
